Who needs counselling?

  • Counselling essentially caters to those seeking truth and clarity in life events, promoting self-reflection and awareness. If you are undergoing prolonged difficulties in your emotions or feel stuck and this is impairing your daily functioning and quality of life, talking to a counsellor in a trusted environment will relieve and enlighten the mind. It also serves individuals who are aspiring to maintain or enhance mental wellness.

What if I don’t know what my issue is?

  • This uncertainty is not uncommon when we talk about emotions and feelings. Discomfort might be short- or long-lived, of varying magnitude, and it could be felt as coming from nowhere. Indeed when we start to review the context systematically, the trigger(s) could be life-stage specific, a recent act or a past event. Not to worry; it is the therapist’s role to guide you to gaining clarity.

What happens after I register?

  • Congratulations for taking the first step! Commitment to change is a key contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. We ask you to provide us with certain personal information and medical history, if relevant. We gather this data and information because they are important to the assessment and subsequent process. When we get a better understanding of your issues after a couple of sessions, we will suggest the most appropriate approach or approaches for their alignment. Under certain circumstances and in the best interest of clients, we may refer your case to other professionals if deemed appropriate.

What is the format of counselling?

  • Therapy is primarily conversation-based so face-to-face meetings are strongly preferred. However, online sessions could be considered in special situations.

What am I expected to do during counselling?

  • During the process, please open up yourself as much as possible as the more receptive a client is for change, the more desirable will be the outcome. The process is essentially the co-creation of a plan of goals and actions, in which constant review and reflections are key components. Self-awareness and insights take time to nurture, so please allow change to occur gradually.

How about the duration?

  • Empirical evidence shows that it is common to see beneficial change after eight to ten sessions of committed work. Each session lasts for 55 minutes and may take place on a weekly basis. Nonetheless, this is subject to the wishes of the individual and their progress.

How about privacy and confidentiality?

  • Data privacy is strictly respected. No information will be shared with third parties without client’s written consent under normal circumstances. However, if a client reveals an intent or a past act of hurting oneself or others, or has committed a criminal offence, we reserve the right to refer the case to the local authorities.

What measures are in place to protect against Covid-19?

  • Both client and counsellor must wear masks throughout the session. The counselling room is sterilized regularly and disposable protective covers are used if needed.
